Project Overview
The Technology News Magazine Website was one of my earliest projects, launched in 2016 as a platform dedicated to delivering the latest news and insights in technology and gaming. Built on WordPress, this website features a custom design created using Elementor, with a strong emphasis on SEO and performance optimization to attract and retain a large audience. As both the developer and a content writer, I aimed to create a visually engaging, high-performing website that could handle high traffic volumes and deliver content efficiently to a tech-savvy audience.
Role and Responsibilities
I was responsible for the full design and development of the website, as well as the technical configuration and server management. This included setting up the website on a custom Digital Ocean droplet, optimizing server performance with NGINX and Fast-CGI caching, and enhancing security and speed through Cloudflare integration. I also designed the homepage and all key sections, such as article and author pages, and implemented additional features like a self-hosted comment system and infinite scrolling between articles to keep users engaged.
Key Features and Functionality
- Custom WordPress Design with Elementor: Developed a unique, visually appealing design using Elementor that aligns with the site’s focus on technology and gaming news. The homepage was designed with a masonry gallery layout and category-based content blocks to showcase the latest blog posts in a dynamic and engaging way.
- Optimized for SEO and Performance: Focused on SEO from the ground up, employing best practices for on-page SEO, meta descriptions, and keyword optimization. Additionally, implemented backend configurations to significantly improve loading speeds, including setting up a custom server environment.
- Backend Performance Enhancements: Configured an NGINX server with Fast-CGI caching to reduce server load and improve content delivery speeds. Set up a Cloudflare CDN for additional caching and security benefits, ensuring that the website could handle thousands of visitors per day and provide a fast, reliable experience across all devices.
- Additional Interactive Features:
- Self-Hosted Comment System: Developed a self-hosted commenting feature to foster user engagement while maintaining full control over user data and avoiding third-party dependencies.
- Infinite Scrolling Between Articles: Integrated an infinite scrolling feature that allows users to seamlessly navigate between articles without having to reload the page, increasing page views and enhancing the user experience.

The site’s ability to handle substantial traffic loads without compromising speed or user experience was a key factor in its success, enabling it to become a popular destination for tech and gaming enthusiasts.
Lessons Learned
This project was a valuable learning experience in both front-end design and back-end server management. It taught me the importance of optimizing website performance at every level, from design to server configuration, and reinforced the need for a strategic approach to SEO. Additionally, it highlighted the benefits of self-hosting and custom setups for achieving greater control and flexibility over website performance and user experience.
