Project Overview

The Baby Apparel E-Shop is a full-featured online store developed for a popular baby clothing retailer in Greece. Built on WordPress and powered by WooCommerce, this e-commerce platform was designed to handle high traffic volumes while offering a seamless shopping experience for customers. The project’s goal was to create a modern, user-friendly e-shop that not only reflects the brand's identity but also supports its growth by transitioning from an outdated e-commerce platform and integrating advanced digital marketing tools.

Role and Responsibilities

In this project, I played a crucial role in transforming the client’s online presence by designing a completely new website from scratch, in close collaboration with the client to ensure the design aligned with their brand vision. My responsibilities included setting up the WooCommerce platform, enabling digital payments, creating custom product feeds for Google Shopping, and overseeing the smooth transition from the client’s old e-commerce system to the new platform without any data loss or significant downtime.

Key Features and Functionality

  • Custom Design and User Experience: Developed a fully customized website design tailored to the client's specific requirements, incorporating brand colors, typography, and visual elements that resonate with their target audience. The design was optimized for both desktop and mobile devices, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable shopping experience.
  • WooCommerce Setup and Configuration: Implemented and configured WooCommerce to serve as the backbone of the e-shop, including product management, inventory tracking, and a streamlined checkout process. This setup included custom product categories, filters, and search functionalities to help users easily find the products they need.
  • Digital Payment Integration: Integrated digital payment solutions using the Piraeus Bank of Greece, allowing customers to make secure online payments through credit and debit cards. This involved configuring the payment gateway, ensuring PCI compliance, and testing the payment flow for a seamless transaction experience.
  • Migration from Legacy E-commerce Platform: Managed the complete migration process from the client’s old e-commerce platform to the new WooCommerce site. This involved transferring all product data, customer information, and order history, while ensuring minimal disruption to the business operations and maintaining data integrity.
  • Custom Feeds for Google Shopping: Developed custom product feeds to export the e-shop’s inventory to Google Shopping. This setup was designed to be dynamic, automatically updating the feed with new products, pricing changes, and stock levels to maximize the client’s visibility and effectiveness in Google Shopping campaigns.
  • Promotional Tools and Campaign Management: Set up tools for creating and managing promotional campaigns, such as discount codes and special offers, directly within WooCommerce. This functionality empowered the client to easily run and track marketing campaigns, boosting customer engagement and driving sales.

Technical Stack

The project was built on a robust stack to ensure flexibility, scalability, and performance:

  • WordPress and WooCommerce: Utilized WordPress as the content management system for easy site administration and WooCommerce as the e-commerce platform to handle product management, orders, and payments.
  • PHP and Custom Plugins: Developed custom PHP scripts and plugins to handle specific requirements such as the Google Shopping product feed and custom payment gateway integration.
  • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript: Applied HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create a responsive design and enhance user interface elements, ensuring fast loading times and a consistent experience across all devices.

Outcome and Impact

The launch of the new Baby Apparel E-Shop resulted in a significant increase in online sales and customer engagement. The integration with Google Shopping enabled the client to successfully launch targeted advertising campaigns, reaching a broader audience and driving more qualified traffic to the website. Additionally, the new platform's ability to handle promotional campaigns directly contributed to higher conversion rates. The transition from the old e-commerce platform to the new one was smooth, with no data loss or significant downtime, allowing the client to continue operations without interruption.

Lessons Learned

This project provided valuable experience in managing complex platform migrations and integrating multiple digital marketing tools into a cohesive e-commerce solution. It underscored the importance of clear communication with clients throughout the design process and the need for meticulous planning when transitioning from a legacy system to a modern platform.
